Who doesn’t want a beautiful, unique smile, I bet you do? Like most, getting the perfect smile usually is one of the most common requests. Great smiles are owed to the union of three characteristics: teeth, gum and lips. An aesthetically pleasing smile harnesses all three of these elements expressed in a unique portion. Comparatively, gummy smiles are caused by excessive gingival display or gum showing under the upper lip. Medically, its caused by dental eruption or hyperfunction of the upper lip elevator muscle.
Currently, medical techniques used to treat a gummy smile include; gingivectomy (removal of the some of the gums), gingivoplasty (surgical reshaping of the gums) or myectomy (surgical reduction of muscle). Unlike these previously mentioned surgical procedures, Botox is non-invasive; statistically it is more effective, safer and with faster results than surgical methodologies. Injections into the elevation of upper lip muscle are works by relaxing these muscles, reducing contraction and the presence of gum exposure.
In as little as few days, patients report satisfaction with an aesthetically pleasing smile. However, best results are seen in patients within a few weeks. Treatment with Botox is reversible after several months, but we can set-up future scheduled appointments. From then, your consultant at Juvea will be able to re-evaluate and assess the progress – ensuring you are happy with the results.
All of our experts at Juvea uphold the highest standard of clinical practice, with our approach to continuous learning and following a strong patient ethos. We believe in reaching your aesthetic ideals. We achieve this by listening to our patients, discussing the treatment avenues and advising you on the best route.
Located in the heart of London, on prestigious Harley Street, our clinics are state-of-the-art using highly trained practitioners within cosmetic medicine. Under our guidance, we feel confident in providing you answers to any queries or concerns with regards to seeking Botox. Many of our previous patient’s have expressed concerns such as ‘Will my smile be natural?’ or ‘Is Botox the right option for me?’ Since many patients are afflicted with an unnatural smile caused by overexposure of the gum. Then Botox is a fantastic treatment solution by injecting into the lip muscle, we can reduce the visible appearance of your gum – giving you a smile you deserve. Essentially, we are not here to make the decision for you but will provide you with information and can even show before and after photos of previous patients.
Unlike surgical methodologies, Botox treatments are highly effective in targeting specific areas and are faster, unlike gingivectomy, gingivoplasty or myectomy procedures. Not to mention that Botox does not require general anaesthesia or the need for an overnight stay in a hospital. Squeezing neatly in your lunch-hour, we aim to work around your schedule.
We recommend that you avoid touching the treating area or aggravating this area by smiling or using the muscles surrounding the treatment area. Do not rub or attempt irritate the area; instead, we recommend you try and relax. If you experience any bruising which tend to only occur in some patients, then we suggest you give it a few days to heal. It is normal to feel some discomfort in this area, but it can be easily managed with over-the-counter medications like paracetamol.
Usually, Botox for a gummy smile takes a few days to notice significant effects, for example, a reduction of the gum, causing a more even ratio of teeth to the gum. After a few weeks, we see the best effects in our patients.

Unlike surgical procedures such as gingivectomy (removal of the some of the gums), gingivoplasty (surgical reshaping of the gums) or myectomy (surgical reduction of muscle) – these can cost several thousands of pounds. Depending on the area or areas being treated, we offer treatment from as little as £250.
At the moment, your smile is more than likely looking unnatural because of the abnormal ratio of gum to teeth; expressed in gummy smiles. Botox is a fantastic treatment option of gummy smiles since it targets the upper lip elevator muscle by reducing contraction hence causing less gum exposure. Ultimately, this improves your natural smile by evening out the gum to teeth ratio giving you that desired smile.
The surgical options available usually include gingivectomy (removal of the some of the gums), gingivoplasty (surgical reshaping of the gums), myectomy (surgical reduction of muscle) or orthognathic (jaw surgery)These tend to be less affordable with more risks for the patient. For example orthognathic surgery involves breaking the upper jaw and removing pieces of bone. Since many patients prefer fast non-invasive options, Botox is fantastic since it works fairly quickly with optimal results seen within a few weeks. Additionally, your saving pennies since it costs considerably less than surgical alternatives, lasting several months. For example, orthognathic surgery costs within the ranges of £10,000- £20,000; depending on the patient’s individual concerns. Other benefits of Botox are that it doesn’t require general anaesthesia, hospitalisation, surgical risks and complications.
One of the significant advantages of using Botox is the relatively minimal downtime involved since most patients don’t experience any significant discomfort. Primarily, we recommend patients avoid using the muscles required for smiling and avoid touching the treated area. However, you won’t have to get general anaesthesia or stay overnight in the hospital. Usually, our patients report seeing the benefits of Botox as little as few days with optimal results often reported after a few weeks.
Although the results of Botox are visibly effective after a few days it should not radically change your face or ability to make regular facial expressions. The aim of Botox treatment for the gummy smile is to target the upper lip elevator muscle, reduce contraction of it and ultimately reduce the appearance of the gum.
Botox is an FDA approved medicine that must be prescribed by a medically qualified physician. Like many other procedures, there is chance of something going wrong; for example, an allergic reaction or bruising. Ultimately, we operate in a risk-averse environment at Juvea, which why we will take a detailed patient history to ensure you are a suitable candidate for Botox. With regards to bruising, bruises usually heal within a few days, and this occurs some patients. Regardless, we are highly experienced at Juvea and have worked on many different patients treating different issues with Botox.
From the consultation all the throughout the post-treatment we will thoroughly advise you on what to do. For example, we recommend that you do not attempt to use your muscles to smile or aggravate the treatment area. Specifically, we prefer that you allow your face to rest during the post-operational period. Essentially this area may be slightly sore and in some cases can bruise from the Botox injections. However, we will follow-up with another consultation to ensure that we have helped you reach your aesthetic ideals.
Within the first few days, you will notice significant difference to your smile, as with many of our patients there is a substantial reduction in the gum. The effects of Botox are reversible but can last a few months, we have noticed with previous patients it can last as long as six months. However, this depends on the individual and degree of visibility of the gum for gummy smile. Additionally, we can offer follow-up appointments in the future if required by you.
Initially, we will carry out a full consultation to determine the degree of necessary treatment for the individual. Essentially, this allows us to tailor our Botox treatments for the person. Depending on the patient’s pain thresholds we may apply numbing cream to the area before injecting with Botox. Typically, these sessions fill neatly within your lunch hour requiring no anaesthesia or an overnight stay in a hospital.
In most cases, our patients start to reek the benefits of Botox after a few days. Ultimately, the best results are seen after a few weeks.
At Juvea, we benefit from the wealth of experience with highly proficient experienced practitioners. Mostly, we are continually learning and advancing with new medical techniques all in the aid to follow our strong patient ethos. Therefore, you can feel comfortable in the hands of our practitioners who are all medically certified and highly experienced with Botox.
