Cosmetic Treatments Popular with Men
Cosmetic Treatments for Men
We are seeing many industries bridging the gender gap, and the cosmetic industry is certainly one, as we see men going to greater lengths to improve their appearance. Once considered to be the domain of women, cosmetic treatments for men are becoming increasingly popular.
But what are they having done?
It may not surprise you that anti-wrinkle treatments are becoming popular with men. Vertical lines that appear between your brows result from muscle contractions. When you concentrate, squint, or frown, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. These wrinkles can linger even after the muscles are at rest. Anti-wrinkle treatments, such as botulinum toxin injections, work by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes the persistent lines to form between the brows. It may also be used for wrinkles around the eyes, those that we call crows’ feet. Remember that botulinum toxin injections are not suitable for everyone and will be discussed as part of a range of treatment options by practitioners during your consultation.
While smoother, younger looking skin is something many people desire, there is also a demand for correction of imperfections created by ourselves! Scar and tattoo removal is now high on the list of treatments for men. Decorative tattoos and body art have been around for decades and their popularity has more than doubled in recent times. There may, however, come a time when you wish to have your tattoo removed. Despite some previous treatments being ineffective, the RevLite laser at Juvea can achieve fantastic results!
This laser is part of a new generation of Q-switched laser technology, capable of producing high powered short bursts of laser energy. Q-switched laser is the most effective laser for tattoo removal and is capable of producing a variety of wavelengths of laser energy to target different colours within the tattoo.
And the trend for a hair-free body is no longer exclusive to the ladies either. Whether a man considers himself to have excessive body hair or simply wants a smooth chest, it can be a successful longer term solution for some men. Laser hair removal is a safe and well tolerated method of removing unwanted hair. It works by targeting the melanin pigment in the base of the hair follicle, halting hair growth. Laser treatments work best for dark coarse hairs, and patients should be aware that the hairs may grown back in time. Laser hair removal is different to the Intense Pulsed Light system (IPL) which uses less powerful light waves rather than laser energy. Laser hair removal can be used on almost any part of the body, but isn’t recommended on the eyelids or the surrounding area due to the risk of damage to the eye. As with all treatments lasers may cause complications, and these will be discussed with you during your consultation alongside other treatment options.
