FAQs
What are the benefits of a Chemical Peel?
Depending on which type of chemical skin peeling your Juvea Aesthetics practitioner recommends for you, the benefits may include:
Improve overall skin texture and tone
Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
Reduces Active Acne
Anti-ageing purposes
Reduce brown spots and freckles
Improve sun & photo damaged skin
Improves the appearance of Melasma
Reduces pigmentation
Works quicker and deeper than exfoliation
Is there any downtime involved?
For Glycolic chemical peels and the stimulating peel at Juvea Aesthetics there is little to no downtime required, meaning that they are the perfect lunchtime treatment. There maybe a little redness afterwards and some light peeling in the days that follow but this will soon subside. With the stronger/deeper TCA and Retinol chemical peels you may find that your skin flakes after 3-5 days but this is completely normal for cellular renewal. It’s important to follow your practitioner’s advice on how to care for your skin.
How many Chemical Peel treatments will I require?
The number of skin peeling treatments required will depend on your skin concerns and your cosmetic goals. For the average client we recommend a course of 4 peels every 2-4 weeks to maximise results for TCA peels, and it takes usually 4-6 treatments at 3 to 4 week intervals to achieve the desired effect with Glycolic peels. As the Obagi Stimulating peel treatment is an event peel, you will see the results immediately after just one treatment. For best results with the ZO 3 Step Stimulating Peel we recommend around 3 peel treatments spaced 6 weeks apart.
Are Chemical Peels painful?
When having a chemical peel you may experience mild tinging but they are not painful. The more gentle peels we do at Juvea Aesthetics use glycolic acids which may also cause redness and minor irritation but this will reduce as your skin becomes used to it. Our stronger peels such as the TCA (trichloroacetic acid) and Retinol peels which penetrate deeper into the skin may sting and irritate the skin more than the lighter peels but your experienced practitioner can put a calming cream on afterwards to soothe the skin.
Who is not suitable for this treatment?
At Juvea Aesthetics we have chemical peels suitable for all skin types but this treatment is not suitable for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, those with active skin disease or infections, cuts or broken skin, sunburned skin, active cold sores/Herpes, Psoriasis, Eczema, Rosacea or Dermatitis. We also recommend that you refrain from this treatment if you have used Retinol or skin lightening creams in the last 48 hours, or if you have taken Accutane in the last six months.
Are there any side effects?
Chemical facial peels are very safe, minor redness, burning, stinging and skin sensitivity are common with this treatment but subside within the first 24 hours following your procedure. Stronger peels may occasionally cause light scabbing, swelling, sensitivity to the sun, acne flare ups, cold sore flare ups and hyperpigmentation (colouring) or hypopigmentation (discolouration) of the skin which could last up to a few months though this is rare.
