FAQs
How can it work without harming skin?
Although the device is placed over the skin, it doesn’t actually attack it. The Cynosure Elite MPX laser is so advanced it can target the hair follicle with great accuracy. This leaves the skin surface from actual trauma. Because of this, there is only minimal discomfort. This is a very safe treatment and while the skin is only mildly affected in the process due to some heat, you will need to be careful of how you treat the area afterwards. In particular, you must avoid the sunlight as the skin is temporarily photo-sensitive.
How many laser hair removal sessions will I need?
The number of session required can very a little bit between patients. When you have your consultation with the Juvea laser expert you will choose the right treatment for you and your skin type or hair problem. Usually 4-6 sessions will see great results and these are carried out at regular intervals of around 4-6 weeks.
What are the benefits of having laser treatment?
The benefits to laser hair removal with the Cynosure Elite MPX are numerous:
- Hairless skin that has a particularly smooth surface due to no re-growth or stubble forming
- Save money over time
- Long lasting to permanent results – and that means:
- No in-growing hairs
- No need for shaving with its risk of cuts and infection
- No need for traumatic waxing and the soreness afterwards
- No need for nasty chemicals from hair removal creams
- No last minute panics before big events or holidays
Will my hair ever grow back?
No, hairs can not grow back if the hair follicle is damaged. The hair growth you might see after just one or two sessions will be hair that was newer or older than the actively growing hair (Anagen stage).
Occasionally hormone changes can produce an increase or difference in hair production but they would be produced from slightly different areas some years later. For those patients we recommend a few extra sessions.
The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) states that laser hair removal treatments are “permanent hair reduction”. In order to be clear on expectations, this is mainly due to the varying skin types (including the stages of hair growth), hair problems and the application at the time. In most cases, after the right amount of treatments, the results are permanent removal.
Is laser hair removal painful?
It is not exactly painful, but you may experience some minor discomfort. Some describe the sensation as an elastic band snapping against the surface. The system has an in-built cooling system which is effective, but if you are particularly concerned a mild anaesthetic cream can be applied to the area beforehand. After the treatment you may see some slight redness but this should subside within 24 hours after the session. Be warned about sun exposure, and you will need to be mindful of tight clothing etc. Your Juvea clinician will give you all the post-treatment care you need to optimise your laser hair removal procedure.
How long do treatments take?
Each treatment differs depending upon the size of the area being treated. For example, an upper lip treatment will take around 5 minutes, the underarms 10 minutes each and about 1-1.5 hours for legs or full back. For the longer treatment times – look at it as a nice rest in the middle of the day!
Do I need to shave on the day of treatment?
Yes, it is beneficial to shave the day before your treatment or in the morning of your treatment. Make sure you are very careful not to cut your skin and avoid wearing clothing that might irritate your newly shaved skin. You want your skin to be as healthy as possible when commencing laser hair removal treatment.
What happens after treatment?
Immediately after each session you are likely to experience some redness, heat bumps or swelling. Some patients find scabs forming or blistering after treatments. Your Juvea laser expert will give you the best advice to deal with any of these typical, mild symptoms. To avoid further irritation wear loose clothing and stay out of the sun.
