THE PROCEDURE

On the day of surgery, you will be seen by your surgeon and by the anaesthetist who will answer any questions you may have. You will also meet the nursing team who will get you ready for your operation and take care of your afterwards. The operation is performed under general anaesthetic (you will be asleep throughout), and usually takes around 1 hour to 90 minutes to complete. Dependent upon your individual circumstances, you may be required to stay in hospital for 1 night after the operation.

A breast augmentation procedure takes around an hour and is carried out under general anaesthetic at a fully-equipped hospital, usually requiring an overnight stay. The implants are skilfully inserted through an incision most commonly along the skin crease under the crease beneath your breast to minimise the visibility of the scar. All of your stitches will be dissolvable and you will not need to have them removed. You will have a dressing over your wounds which will be splash proof. You should try and keep the dressing clean and dry. You will be asked to wear a soft supportive bra without any underwire following the operation by your surgical team. A follow up appointment with your surgical team will be arranged when you go home. Our surgeons will normally advise that you take a week 1-2 weeks off work to recover and also advise when you are able to resume physical exercise etc.
