• + What is the typical amount of sessions needed to treat hyperpigmentation?

  The number of sessions required will depend upon the size of areas or how many parts of the body you wish to treat. Generally 4-6 sessions are a guideline but it could be that you would need a few more to get the results you expect. Our advice is to book a full consultation (free of charge) and they will make a thorough assessment of your skin condition.

• + Is hyperpigmentation so different to other scarring – does it mean it will cost me a lot more?

  Your skin condition will not necessarily mean you have a more problematic issue to resolve. All Juvea technicians are experts in skin care and especially laser treatments so they will know exactly what your skin requires. As soon as you have had your first consultation you will be informed of the likely overall cost and you can make a decision from there. • + I’ve heard that hyperpigmentation is more prevalent among certain ethnicities such as Asian, Mediterranean, African, or Latin people – will this make the treatment more difficult?

  No. It is true that pigmentation is more common in darker skins and needs slightly different approach to pale skinned patients. However, the advancement of the laser technology we use at Juvea means that we can adapt the equipment to treat most skin types and degrees of pigmentation. You should still have the results you expect when you talk to our technicians at Juvea.

• + What does it feel like – is it really painful?

  No there is no pain (unless you are super-sensitive!) No laser treatments for this kind of condition offer general or local anaesthetic which proves it is not a painful procedure. Some people report a bit of discomfort like an elastic band snapping against the skin but it is a very short lived sensation.

• + How soon can I wear make up after treatment?

• + Will I need to stay out of the sun?

  Yes, one of the problems that causes hyperpigmentation is UVA and UVB light. You will need to use a strong sun protection product and one this is suitable to sensitive skin. Your consultant will advise you on the best products.

• + Are the results long lasting?

  Yes, you will see permanent results but you may still get new patches if you are highly prone to hyperpigmentation. As part of the aftercare programme your Juvea clinician can advise you on a great skin care routine that will help you to avoid new areas of hyperpigmentation developing.

• + Can I have the treatment in conjunction with other laser treatment?

  This really depends upon the treatment. Sometimes they are compatible especially if in totally different areas of the body. Talk to your consultant about this.
